PALSThe PALs book club brings senior adults together for lively discussions. Sponsored by the Allegheny County Library Association (ACLA) and the Highmark PALS (People Able to Lend Support) Program. Membership is free. Participants may pick up a copy of the current selection at the library circulation desk. The group meets once a month for a book discussion.
Free classes are offered Monday evenings and Thursday mornings. One-on-one instruction with a qualified volunteer. Please call the Circulation Desk on 412-276-3456, x2 to reserve a class. There are a few rules to allow everyone fair access to the classes:
Homebound Delivery Library materials are selected, picked up and delivered to Carnegie residents, regardless of age, who are unable to come to the Library because of temporary or permanent limitations. Materials available for circulation include, books, large print books, audio books, videos, music CDs and magazines. Materials are delivered once every three weeks. To apply for this service, please call the Library Director (412-276-3456, x17). This is a volunteer driven service. If you are interested in helping others, please let us know.
Interested in family history, but not sure where to start? Call to make an appointment with the Library Director for some one-on-one research assistance. If you’re too busy or have hit a brick wall, inquire about our fee based research services. We specialize in Civil War era records.
Collecting is a wonderful hobby and is different and unique for everyone. Each patron has their own story about what they collect and why. If you have a collection of items that you would want to share with others, please let us know. Items are displayed in a locked case, usually on loan for one month. Stop and see what we have this month! Download the form, fill it out and sign it and either drop it off or mail it to the library.
The Library in partnership with the Chornomors'k Library (Ukraine, Republic of Crimea) has begun a Ukranian and Russian adult book collection. Chornomors'k Central Library is part of the Black Sea Library system. The Sister Library program was begun in cooperation with the Library of Congress Open World Program to promote and deepen cultural relationships.
