Awesome Summer Car Maintenance Tips
Summer is the perfect opportunity for travel. If you are getting away this summer, you are undoubtedly taking your car. Of course, if you are travelling by car this summer you are going to want to make sure that your vehicle is in immaculate condition. Are you taking a particularly long drive this summer? If so, there are some things that you need to do before you drive off into a glorious summer sunset.
Checking your tyres is critical. You will need to make sure that you tyres are blown up to their maximum potential and that they have enough tread on them. Tyres are overlooked by many drivers. However, this should not be the case. The tyres are essential to the car’s safety. If the tyre is under inflated or over inflated, you could be putting your case at risk. Check your manual and make sure that your tyres are inflated to the correct PSI.
Make sure you carry your spare in your boot, so that you avoid any issues that may occur during your summer jaunt.
As a nation, we are reasonably good at checking our oil and fluids. Hafox jaguar recommend that you do this at least once per week. You should endeavour to do a complete oil change before you embark on a long journey. If you are planning on touring the length and breadth of the UK this summer, you may want to change your oil at least three times. Oil is needed to keep your car in full working order. Hoses and Belts
We are not suggesting that you become mini-mechanics. But, checking the hoses and belts present under your bonnet will ensure that you can get from A to B.
You should check to see if the hose is cracked or leaking. Do check to see if the connection is loose. If so, then simply tighten it. Hoses should be firm and malleable. If they are anything but, you may need to replace them entirely.
Belts should also be checked for cracks and tears. What is more, the belt should never look smooth. It should look rougher in its appearance. Again, if the belt looks any other way than as described you will need to replace it. Belt failure is more prone in cars that have done over 30,000 miles. If your car has done this many miles, you may want to look at replacing the belt. Prevention is certainly better than cure. This is particularly true of a snapped belt.
Air filters need love too, and after a long winter months they are often clogged up with all kinds of dirt and debris. There is no science to changing air filters, nor do you need any special equipment to check if they are still working. The best thing to do is to check them one per month. If they are filthy, change them. If not, keep them. It really is that simple.
