Saturday, May 14th
1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

As part of the Allegheny County Library Association's "One Book One Community" initiative, the Library will offer a full afternoon of special programming. A Taste of the South: A Celebration of Southern Culture, inspired by Fannie Flagg's Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café, features staged readings from the novel, quilters and weavers, southern cooking demonstrations, a children's gospel choir, ragtime piano, banjo and guitar performances, refreshments and stories and crafts for children. The program is sponsored by Citizen's Bank.

May 14th is a banner day for the ACFL&MH. The "Carnegie Carnegie" is not only celebrating 104 years of service as a library and music hall, but will showcase the completion of Phase I renovations to its historic landmark facility.* So many people have helped make the dream to restore, renovate and revitalize a work in very impressive progress. Improvements to date provide great inspiration for what is yet to come. THANK YOU!

A Taste of the South programming includes:

There will be ongoing quilting and weaving activities provided by Ruth Ward and LaVerne Kemp, crafts for children, and showings of the popular movie "Fried Green Tomatoes." Whole Foods Market is donating refreshments.
