The Commission of the Carnegie Library has voted to set apart forever, the southeast corner room on the second floor of the building, as a Memorial room for Capt. Thos. Espy Post, No. 153 G.A.R.
This room is over thirty feet square and is an ideal room for the purpose for which it will hereafter be used. Members of the G.A.R. have been conferring with the commission regarding this matter for some time, and at the last meeting of the Commission, the arrangements were completed.
When Capt. Thos. Espy Post, G.A.R., ceases to exist all relics, flags, furniture, paraphernalia, etc., reverts to the Library Commission, and the room is there after to be known forever as "Capt. Thos. Espy Post Memorial Hall."
Just as soon as the arrangements were completed for devoting the room to this purpose, Messrs. Dushane and Lewis were ordered to prepare plans and make cases and cabinets for the room.
When completed, all those having old war relics which they wish to place in safe keeping, are requested to turn them over to the G.A.R. Post. They will be placed in this room on exhibition.
This room will undoubtedly prove a valuable acquisition to the library building. Here will be gathered old flags, guns, swords and other relics of past wars, and practically all of these relics will have a bearing on local history.
So long as Capt. Thos. Espy Post, G.A.R., remains in existence they are to be allowed to meet in the room. When the veterans have dwindled in numbers to that low ebb when not enough are alive or able to attend meetings, then all the room's contents reverts to the Library Commission.
