Enoch Phillips Holland was born 29 April 1838 in Upper St. Clair Township. By 1852 he was a member of the St. Clair Guards, and by 1861 a member of the Iron City Guards. He entered Camp Wilkins on 2 May 1861 and in July was mustered into the Ninth Pennsylvania Reserve Corps, Company C. His service includes positions as First Musician, regimental postmaster, regimental clerk. He participated in the campaigns at Dranesville, Mechanicsville, Gaines Mill, Charles city Crossroads, Gettysburg, and Mine Run. He was a member of the Captain Thomas Espy Post #153 of the Grand Army of the Republic, Carnegie, Pennsylvania. He died in Carnegie on 3 May 1916 and is buried in Melrose Cemetery.
Mr. Holland was the donor of the original roll book of the St. Clair Guards, organized July 4, 1844. Thomas Espy was elected the first Captain. On July 4, 1861, just 17 years after its organization, it became Co. H. 62d Regt., Pa. Vols., with Thos. Espy as its Captain. The book has been in the possession of E. P. Holland, one of the first members of the St. Clair Guards. Was presented by him to Memorial Hall, 1911. See item 174 in the Annotated Catalogue of the Capt. Thomas Espy GAR Post #153.
